Chanel Spring 2010

The dresses were shortened, the colors were neutral, and classic Chanel was given a contempary edge. Despite the theatrics created by Prince, Rihana, and Lily Allen, the clothes made the biggest impact. I absolutely loved the collection. However, not even Karl Lagerfeld can make clogs look cool.

Street Smart

Let's face it, the streets are way more interesting than the catwalk. Every day is an opportunity to express yourself.

Casting Call

My best friend and amazing actress, Betsy Newman, employed my styling services for a meeting with her agent. We decided on a polished, yet sexy, look. The dress is Kenny. The shoes are Steve Madden (Christian Louboutin look-a-likes). The belt is vintage. The outfit would also be perfect for a business lunch in Malibu.

"Aristotle was known to believe redheads were emotionally unhousebroken."

The quote comes from the newest addition to my coffee table book collection, Cloe Sevigny For Opening Ceremony. The photographs are shot by David Armstrong. The book features only red headed models wearing her latest collection for Opening Ceremony. Other featured work includes artwork by Slater Bradley, Peter Coffin, Matt Damhave, Joe Denardo, Brian Degraw, Brendan Fowler, Jess Holzworth, Matt Keegan, Karen Kilimnik, Kon Trubkovich, Nate Lowman, Lily Ludlow, Marlene Mccarty, Jack Pierson, Rob Pruitt, and Aurel Schmidt.

Other books to check out: Fruits by Steve Aoki, The Satorialist by Scott Schuman, Influence by Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion by Harold Koda and Kohle Yohannan, and Who What Wear Celebrity and Runway Style for Real Life by Hillary Kerr and Katherine Power (my former bosses!).

"Luxury must be comfortable, otherwise it is not luxury."

I recently saw the movie, Coco Avant Chanel, and I have a renewed obsession with individuality. The easiest way to personalize an outfit (on a budget) is with accessories. I visited NYC two summers ago with a friend, and we stayed with the talented Amee Carter. She and her friend, Sabrina Bacon, created a headband line, Pas Comme les Moutons, that has been generating a lot of press. The headbands started out as a Sunday afternnoon project and have exploded into a business. Like Coco Chanel's little black dress, the headbands are truely luxurious and speacial because they were created to be loved and worn, not for money.
